Spring Training AZ 2010

Coleton had a great opportunity this year to attend Spring Training in Arizona. If you are not familiar with what happens here, well then you must not follow or love baseball. This is where all the Pros go to train, from teams like the Mariners, Brewers, Dodgers, Padres, Indians and many more. This is where the Managers take a look at the players to determine the final Roster based on their performance.
Our friend Dave and his family travel to Arizona every year to enjoy the warm weather and good baseball. This year Dave decided to take his son and a couple of his friends that shared the passion for the game. Coleton was invited to go. Dave is friends with a few players from different teams, which allows them a little VIP access. Such as free tickets, tours of facilities and locker rooms etc. Coleton was able to bring his own "hook up" into the mix. Justin Sellers, from the Dodgers. After getting everything lined up, we knew Justin would have some tickets for them to go to the Dodgers games. SCORE! What we didnt know was, Justin was going to bring the boys along for early morning workouts, some one on one BP and in field training! It was quite the opportunity for these young men and one they will carry with them forever.

Justin Sellers giving the boys some tips.

Ryan Royster from the Mariners giving the boys a private tour of the facility and the Locker Room. Ryan is from Sacramento and played Ball at UC Davis. He started a company called PPBI, Pro Player Baseball Instruction for youth. The website can be found here.
They have also started a Travel Ball team which Coleton has been invited to play for.

The boys at the Padres stadium.

Watching Manny Parra with the Brewers. Dave is friends with the family. They got the "Hook up" with these awesome hats! Big Manny (Manny Parra's Dad) as the call him, invited them to his hotel to swim in the pool. Cole was very excited about that and also how "Nice" the hotel was and all the amenities. :)

Bob Feller who is a Hall of Fame Legend (pitcher) that had left the game of baseball to join the Navy in WW ll and then later returned to the game. He played in the late 30's, 40's and 50's, with Dave.

This girl in the picture is Manny's girlfriend, Cole had a little thing for her ;) I asked if she was pretty and he had a huge grin on his face and turned a light shade of red. Boys!
More to come!

Slow Down

A poem....
SLOW DANCE
Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.
Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask, "How are you?
"Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?
You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.
Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say "Hi"?
You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift.... Thrown away.
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

Royal 5th Birthday Ball

It was a magical time at the Brenner house this past weekend. Our little Fairy Princess turned 5. Can you believe it? 5! Wow! Time sure does fly. It makes me sad to think how big she is getting and how much she is not a baby anymore, shes not even a toddler. THAT makes me sad. Shes a BIG girl! Opening day was a big eye opener to this as well, many people at the field have watched her grow up and said so this past weekend. They commented on how the remember when I first started bringing her to the games and how shes such a big girl now. Its true. and so sad.
SOOOO for her 5th birthday we celebrated with a Royal Birthday Ball. We do ALLOT of celebrating so our dear friends convinced us to hold it at their house. WHAT A GRAND IDEA!! IT worked out PERFECT!! Side note. You may have seen allot of pictures of their home on this blog. We are there allot. You may have noticed unfinished walls or unfinished floors. Their home started at about 1000 sq ft. and now its about 3-4000 sq ft. Doug us built up and around the original home and its pretty spectacular. It is not finished yet and still amazing.

The gift bags.

Some party food. This is one part of the house that's not finished. Everything in the kitchen is temporary and will eventually be changed.
Normally I serve a meal when I entertain, I decided against it. We did finger foods instead and I think it was just as good.
